Hanoi is a fascinating city. It has the South East Asian charm with a large dose of Chinese influence, making it a very interesting mixture. It can suck you in, spin you around and then make you fall in love with it. There are a lot of places to see and thousands of things you can do in the city. You will never get bored. If you are big on shopping and wonder what to visit to spend your money and what to buy to amaze your family and friends back home, I compiled a comprehensive list just for you. Happy shopping!
Silk and Clothing
Silk is one of the products that you will see everywhere in Hanoi. You can either buy the material itself or you can go for something that has already been made. There are different colours and different quality of fabrics. The prices vary, but it is much cheaper to buy it here than in your home country.
If you want to buy something unique that will remind you of Hanoi, or you are after some gifts for your friends and family, then Hanoi is an endless mine of shops that sell all kinds of souvenirs. You can either go for something like magnets and pins, or buy an unusual item, one that you can only find in Vietnam. It is worth coming to Hanoi just to explore the possibilities.
Products made by ethnic minorities
The best place in Vietnam to buy these sort of items is Sapa, but if you are not planning on going there, then you can find the same items (although a little bit more expensive) in Hanoi. Not many know that Vietnam has over 50 minority groups – that’s more than any other country in Asia. One of their sources of income is trade. They make beautiful clothing, jewellery and accessories, but also lacquerware, carved buffalo horn good, paintings and woodwork.
Local people are very creative and art here can be seen and bought almost at every corner. There are cheap pictures sold by the street artists, or more expensive items that can be found in the local galleries.
